When it comes to removing oil stains from carpets, there are different methods that you can use. It is important to always do a spot removal test on an inconspicuous part of your carpet first.
Removing Oil Stains from Carpets – A DIY Guide:
This can be a really tricky stain and one that can be worrying when you find it. We are all aware of how oil does not mix with water. And therefore, so many products and techniques will not work. In fact, they are more likely to spread the stain further.
- First, it is important to scrape off any excess oil. When you are doing this, make sure not to press too hard as you are likely to damage the carpet fibres.
- You can sprinkle baking soda directly onto the oil stain and let it sit for a little while (about 10 to 15 minutes).
- When this time has passed you can then vacuum the carpet.
- Apply a dry-cleaning solvent on a clean cloth, and apply it directly to the stain. Afterward, carefully blot the stain with a clean cloth.
- If the oil stain is still visible, mix two cups of warm water with one tablespoon of white vinegar and one tablespoon of washing up liquid. This mixture can then be applied to the oil stain, working the solution into the stain.
- It is incredibly important to fully rinse the area with cold water thoroughly. The carpet should then be left to dry naturally. It is important that you blot as much excess moisture from your carpet once the stain has gone. Leaving the carpet wet can possibly leave water marks or damage your carpet.
