Removing soot from carpets can seem like an impossible task. Soot particles are very fine. Brushing them away or trying to remove the soot stain can create more of an issue. You can create further damage without the knowledge of how best to tackle it.
It is important to know not to rub the stain. You will further work the particles, deep into the carpet fibres which are much harder to clean. It is a better idea, if you are looking to tackle the issue yourself, to use the nozzle of your hover. This will work to pick up the residue and particles much better than manually removing them.
You may find the advice to sprinkle talcum powder over the stain. What does this do? This would work to absorb the stain and any residue. This would then need to be hovered to remove it.
Our Help to Removing Soot from Carpets
There is varied advice available as to how you should remove soot stains from carpets. There are a range of carpet cleaning products that claim to make this process easier. However, these products also tend to leave your carpet or rug with residue. This is often then harder to remove than the stain. Why? It would be easy to soak the residue away. However, it is never a good idea to really wet your carpet. If carpets are left wet, they will take a long time to dry. You may also find that the carpet does not smell particularly nice as the drying process has taken so long. This is not an attractive look.
Our client recently commented:
“Colin provides a high standard service, removing stains and marks that naturally occur in a busy retail store, leaving the carpet smelling fresh and looking clean for our customers. Using his high tech equipment regularly allows us to get the maximum lifespan out of our floor covering, minimising costs in the long term. Money well-spent and I would highly recommend.” – Ed Shield
This is a job we were asked to clean in Poulton-Le-Fylde. Our client had their chimney swept. However, some escaped onto the carpet, but a deep clean soon removed the offending black sooty marks.
